Ingredients

  • 1 cup Glutinous rice flour
  • 0.75 cup Warm water
  • 0.5 cup Black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Vegan butter
  • 3 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • 6 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoons Rock sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1In a food processor, grind the black sesame seeds until finely ground.
  2. 2In a bowl, mix the ground black sesame seeds with the softened vegan butter and powdered sugar until a smooth paste forms. Divide the paste into small balls (about 1 teaspoon each) and set aside in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up.
  3. 3In a large bowl, gradually add warm water to the glutinous rice flour, mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
  4. 4Pinch off small pieces of the dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and flatten them into small circles.
  5. 5Place a frozen black sesame paste ball in the center of each dough circle. Gently wrap the dough around the filling and roll it into a smooth ball.
  6. 6Bring the water to a boil in a large pot. Add the glutinous rice balls and cook until they float to the surface and are cooked through (about 5-7 minutes).
  7. 7If using, add rock sugar to the soup and stir until dissolved.
  8. 8Serve the sweet soup hot.
