Allergy Disclaimer
Safe Plated provides AI-generated suggestions only. Always read physical ingredient labels and verify allergen safety before consuming any food. This is not medical advice.
Allergic Reactions Can Be Life-Threatening
Food allergies can cause anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially fatal allergic reaction. If you or anyone experiences symptoms of an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling, hives, rapid pulse, dizziness), call emergency services immediately and administer epinephrine (e.g. EpiPen) if available.
AI Limitations
Safe Plated uses artificial intelligence to generate recipes and assess allergen safety. You should understand these limitations:
- AI can miss allergens. AI models do not have perfect knowledge of every food product, ingredient, or formulation. Hidden allergens (e.g. casein in "non-dairy" creamers, soy lecithin in chocolate) may not be detected.
- Nutritional estimates are approximations. Calorie counts, macronutrient values, and cost estimates are AI-generated approximations, not laboratory-verified figures.
- Safety scores are algorithmic estimates. A high safety score does not guarantee that a recipe is safe for your specific allergies.
- Restaurant assessments are estimates. Safety scores for restaurants are based on cuisine type analysis and publicly available reviews. They do not reflect actual kitchen practices, cross-contamination protocols, or current menu offerings.
Always Read Physical Labels
Before using any ingredient in a recipe, you must:
- Read the complete ingredient list on the physical product packaging.
- Check for "may contain" or "manufactured in a facility that processes" warnings.
- Verify that the specific brand and product you purchased matches what the recipe intended.
- Re-check labels even for products you have used before — manufacturers change formulations without notice.
- Contact the manufacturer directly if you are uncertain about any ingredient.
Cross-Contamination Risks
Cross-contamination can occur at multiple stages:
- Manufacturing: Products may be processed on shared equipment with allergens, even if the ingredient list appears safe.
- Retail: Bulk bins, bakery counters, and deli sections may have cross-contact between products.
- Home preparation: Shared cutting boards, utensils, cookware, and cooking oil can transfer allergens.
- Restaurants: Shared fryers, grills, and preparation surfaces may contain allergen residue.
Safe Plated cannot account for cross-contamination risks in your specific environment. You are responsible for maintaining a safe preparation area.
Ingredient Substitutions
Safe Plated suggests ingredient substitutions based on functional roles (binding, aeration, fat richness, etc.). These substitutions are informational and educational. They are not guaranteed to be safe for every individual, produce identical results, or account for all possible allergic sensitivities. A substitution that avoids one allergen may introduce another allergen or sensitivity.
Not a Substitute for Professional Advice
Safe Plated is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. You should:
- Consult a board-certified allergist or immunologist for allergy testing and management.
- Work with a registered dietitian for personalised nutritional guidance.
- Maintain an up-to-date allergy action plan provided by your physician.
- Carry prescribed emergency medication (epinephrine auto-injectors) at all times if advised by your doctor.
Emergency Information
If you suspect an allergic reaction, do not wait for symptoms to worsen. Call emergency services (000 in Australia, 911 in the US, 999 in the UK, 112 in the EU) and administer epinephrine if prescribed.
