Ingredients

  • 6 Saba Bananas (or Plantains)
  • 6 Gluten-Free Rice Paper Wrappers
  • 6 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Jackfruit Strips (Langka), optional
  • for frying Vegetable Oil

Original measure retained: its cup/spoon or fluid-volume standard is unspecified.

Instructions

  1. 1Peel the 6 Saba Bananas (or Plantains) and cut each banana in half lengthwise.
  2. 2Lay one Gluten-Free Rice Paper Wrapper flat on a clean, dry surface. Place one banana half in the center of the wrapper. Sprinkle the banana half with 1 tablespoon of Brown Sugar. If using, add a few of the Jackfruit Strips on top of the banana and sugar.
  3. 3Fold the left and right sides of the Gluten-Free Rice Paper Wrapper inward over the filling. Then, starting from the end with the filling, roll the wrapper up tightly, like a spring roll, to enclose the banana completely.
  4. 4Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the remaining 5 banana halves and 5 Gluten-Free Rice Paper Wrappers.
  5. 5Pour enough Vegetable Oil into a 25.4 cm skillet to reach about 1.27 cm deep. Heat the Vegetable Oil over medium heat until it reaches 163°C.
  6. 6Carefully place 2 or 3 of the rolled turon into the hot Vegetable Oil, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry the turon for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy all over. The total frying time will be approximately 6 to 9 minutes.
  7. 7Using tongs, remove the fried turon from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  8. 8Serve the Gluten-Free Turon immediately while they are still warm and crispy.
