Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Berbere Spice Blend
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Place a large pot over medium heat. Add the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the pot and let it heat up for about 1 minute until it shimmers.
  2. 2Add the 0.5 cup of popcorn kernels to the pot. Cover the pot with a lid and shake it gently every 30 seconds to prevent the kernels from burning.
  3. 3Continue to cook until the popping sound slows down significantly, with about 3-5 seconds between each pop. This should take approximately 3-5 minutes.
  4. 4Carefully remove the pot from the heat. Pour all the popped popcorn into a large bowl.
  5. 5In a separate small bowl, combine the 1 tablespoon of Berbere spice blend and the 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Stir them together until they are well mixed.
  6. 6Sprinkle the spice and salt mixture evenly over the popcorn in the large bowl. Toss the popcorn thoroughly with your hands or a large spoon to ensure every piece is coated with the spices.
  7. 7Serve the Ethiopian-Spiced Popcorn immediately while it is still warm and fragrant.
