Ethiopian Chickpea Stew (Shiro Wat)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpea Flour
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Berbere Spice Blend
  • 2 tablespoons Avocado Oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, whisk together the chickpea flour and 1 cup of water until smooth. Set aside.
  2. 2Heat the avocado oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. 3Add the berbere spice blend and cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
  4. 4Pour in the remaining 2 cups of water and bring to a simmer.
  5. 5Gradually whisk in the chickpea flour mixture, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  6. 6Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the stew has thickened.
  7. 7Season with salt to taste. Serve warm, often with gluten-free injera bread.
