Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup Applesauce
  • 3 cups Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 cup Almond Milk

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, combine water, vegetable oil (2 tbsp), and salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. 2Remove from heat and add flour all at once. Stir vigorously until a dough forms.
  3. 3Stir in applesauce until well combined.
  4. 4Heat 3 cups of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  6. 6Pipe churros directly into the hot oil, about 4-5 inches long. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. 7Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. 8In a shallow dish, combine sugar and cinnamon. Roll the churros in the sugar mixture.
  9. 9For the chocolate sauce, melt dairy-free chocolate chips with almond milk in a saucepan over low heat until smooth.
  10. 10Serve churros warm with chocolate dipping sauce.
