Ingredients

  • 1 lb Firm Tofu
  • 1/2 cup Tapioca Starch
  • 1/4 cup Rice Flour
  • 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce (Gluten-Free Tamari)
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 cups Neutral Oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup Thai Basil (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1Press the tofu to remove excess water. Cut into bite-sized pieces.
  2. 2In a bowl, whisk together tapioca starch, rice flour, five spice powder, white pepper, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. 3In another bowl, mix gluten-free tamari and sesame oil.
  4. 4Dip each tofu piece into the tamari mixture, then dredge in the starch mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
  5. 5Heat neutral oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. 6Carefully add the tofu pieces to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. 7Remove the tofu with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. 8Garnish with Thai basil.
  9. 9Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
