Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Saba bananas
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 12 pieces Lumpia wrappers (egg-free)
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup Jackfruit strips (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1Peel the 6 Saba bananas and cut each one in half lengthwise.
  2. 2Place the banana halves on a clean surface. Evenly sprinkle the 1/2 cup of brown sugar over all the banana halves. If you are using them, place 1 jackfruit strip on top of each banana half.
  3. 3Take one of the 12 Lumpia wrappers. Place a prepared banana half near one corner of the wrapper. Tightly roll the wrapper around the banana, tucking in the sides as you go, to form a neat roll. Repeat with the remaining banana halves and Lumpia wrappers.
  4. 4Pour the 1 cup of Vegetable oil into a large, heavy-bottomed pot or wok. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Carefully place the wrapped turon into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the wrappers are golden brown and crispy on all sides. The turon should sound crisp when tapped.
  6. 6Using a slotted spoon or spider strainer, carefully remove the turon from the hot oil. Place the fried turon on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve the turon warm.
