Tortas Fritas (Fried Cakes)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.75 cup Warm water
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. 2Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. 3Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes on a lightly floured surface.
  4. 4Divide the dough into small balls.
  5. 5Roll each ball into a thin circle (about 1/4-inch thick).
  6. 6Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  7. 7Fry the tortas fritas for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  8. 8Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels.
  9. 9Sprinkle with sugar, if desired, and serve warm.
