Torta Frita with Dulce de Leche (Nut-Free)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 2 tbsp Beef tallow or vegetable shortening
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup Dulce de leche

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. 2Gradually add warm water and melted tallow (or shortening), mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. 3Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  5. 5Divide the dough into small balls, about 2 inches in diameter.
  6. 6Roll each ball into a thin circle or oval shape.
  7. 7Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  8. 8Carefully place the dough into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. 9Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. 10Serve warm with a dollop of dulce de leche.
