Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Place a large, heavy-bottomed pot on the stove over medium heat. Add the 2 tbsp of vegetable oil and let it heat up for about 1 minute, until it shimmers slightly.
  2. 2Carefully add the 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels to the hot oil. Immediately cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  3. 3Cook the kernels over medium heat, shaking the pot gently every 30 seconds or so to prevent burning. Continue cooking until the popping sounds slow down to about 3-5 seconds between each pop, which should take approximately 5-8 minutes.
  4. 4Once the popping has significantly slowed, remove the pot from the heat. Let it sit, still covered, for 1 minute to allow any final kernels to pop.
  5. 5While the popcorn is popping, in a small bowl, combine the 1/2 tsp of ground ginger, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, 1/4 tsp of chili powder, and 1/4 tsp of salt. Stir them together until well mixed.
  6. 6Uncover the pot of popcorn. Pour the spice mixture evenly over the popped popcorn. Gently toss the popcorn for about 30 seconds to ensure all the pieces are coated with the spices.
  7. 7Serve the spiced popcorn immediately.
