Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpea Flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • 0.5 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Berbere Spice Blend
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Oil (Vegetable or Canola)

Instructions

  1. 1In a medium bowl, combine the 1 cup of chickpea flour and the 1 cup of water. Whisk them together until the mixture is completely smooth, with no lumps.
  2. 2Add the 0.5 cup of onion, finely chopped, the 2 tablespoons of berbere spice blend, the 2 cloves of garlic, minced, the 1 teaspoon of ginger, minced, and the 0.5 teaspoon of salt to the chickpea flour mixture. Stir everything together until it is all well combined.
  3. 3Place a 10-inch skillet on the stovetop and heat the 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat, which is about 350°F (175°C). Wait until the oil is shimmering, which indicates it is hot enough.
  4. 4Carefully drop rounded tablespoons of the chickpea mixture into the hot oil. Fry the chickpea bites for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, until they are golden brown and look crispy. You should hear a gentle sizzle as they cook.
  5. 5Use a slotted spoon to remove the cooked chickpea bites from the skillet. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any extra oil. Let them drain for about 1 minute.
  6. 6Serve the Spiced Chickpea Bites warm.
