Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpea Flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Berbere Spice Mix
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil

Instructions

  1. 1In a medium bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of chickpea flour, 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of berbere spice mix, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt until you have a smooth batter with no lumps.
  2. 2Place a 10-inch skillet over medium heat. Add the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the skillet and let it heat up until it shimmers, which should take about 1-2 minutes. The oil should reach approximately 350°F (175°C).
  3. 3Carefully drop rounded tablespoons of the chickpea mixture into the hot oil. Make sure not to overcrowd the skillet; you may need to cook in batches.
  4. 4Cook the chickpea bites for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side, until they are golden brown and firm to the touch. Flip them over carefully using a spatula.
  5. 5Cook the chickpea bites for another 3 to 4 minutes on the second side, until they are golden brown and cooked through. They should sound slightly crisp when tapped.
  6. 6Use a slotted spoon or spatula to remove the cooked chickpea bites from the skillet. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  7. 7Serve the spiced chickpea bites warm.
