Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cooked White Rice
  • 1 can Spam
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 4 sheets Nori Seaweed
  • 2 tablespoons Furikake Rice Seasoning

Instructions

  1. 1Open the can of Spam and cut it into 8 equal slices, each about 1/2-inch thick.
  2. 2In a 10-inch skillet, combine the 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved, about 1-2 minutes. The mixture will be liquid.
  3. 3Add the 8 slices of Spam to the skillet with the soy sauce and sugar mixture. Cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side, until the Spam is lightly browned and slightly caramelized. Remove the Spam from the skillet and set aside.
  4. 4Place one sheet of nori seaweed on a clean, dry surface with the shiny side down. If you have a musubi mold, place it in the center of the nori. If not, you will shape the rice by hand.
  5. 5Fill the musubi mold (or your hands) with about 1 cup of the 4 cups of cooked white rice. Press the rice down firmly to create a compact rectangular block. Sprinkle the top of the rice block evenly with 1 tablespoon of the furikake rice seasoning.
  6. 6Place 2 slices of the cooked Spam on top of the seasoned rice. Carefully lift the musubi mold (if using) to release the rice and Spam block. If you did not use a mold, gently shape the rice and Spam together.
  7. 7Wrap the nori seaweed around the rice and Spam block, pressing gently to seal the edge. You may need to moisten the edge of the nori slightly with water to help it stick, but do not use too much.
  8. 8Repeat steps 4 through 7 with the remaining ingredients: 3 more sheets of nori, about 3 cups of cooked rice, 1 tablespoon of furikake, and 6 slices of Spam, to make a total of 4 Spam Musubi. Serve immediately.
