Sopa de Cação (Dogfish Soup)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dogfish fillets (skinless)
  • 1.5 lbs Potatoes (peeled and diced)
  • 1 medium Onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 6 cups Chicken broth
  • 0.5 cup Fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 3 tbsp Olive oil
  • 4 slices Crusty bread (for serving)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. 2Add tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. 3Add the diced potatoes and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. 4Add the dogfish fillets and cook until they are cooked through and flake easily with a fork, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. 5Stir in fresh cilantro. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. 6Serve hot with slices of crusty bread.
