Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Instant Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.5 cups Warm Water
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1 cup Sesame Seeds

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2Add warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  3. 3Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. 5Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. 6In a shallow dish, mix molasses and water.
  7. 7Place sesame seeds in another shallow dish.
  8. 8Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long strand, about 12 inches long.
  9. 9Fold the strand in half and twist the two strands together. Form a circle and pinch the ends together to seal.
  10. 10Dip each simit into the molasses mixture, then coat generously with sesame seeds.
  11. 11Place simits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. 12Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. 13Let cool slightly before serving.
