Shiro Wat (Chickpea Stew)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpea flour
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger
  • 2 tablespoons Berbere spice mix
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, mix chickpea flour with 1 cup of water to form a smooth paste.
  2. 2In a pot, sauté finely chopped onion in vegetable oil until softened.
  3. 3Add minced garlic and ginger, sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  4. 4Stir in berbere spice mix and tomato paste. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. 5Add the chickpea flour paste and the remaining 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the stew has thickened.
  6. 6Season with salt and serve hot with injera or rice.
