Shiro Wat (Chickpea Stew)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Shiro powder
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 medium Red onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon Berbere spice blend
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a pot, sauté finely chopped red onion, garlic, and ginger in vegetable oil until softened.
  2. 2Add berbere spice blend and tomato paste, cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  3. 3Mix shiro powder with water to form a smooth paste.
  4. 4Add the shiro paste to the pot and cook, stirring constantly, until the stew thickens.
  5. 5Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. 6Add salt to taste. Serve hot with injera.
