Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Ground Arabic coffee
  • 4 pods Cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground saffron
  • 4 cups Water
  • 8 dates Medjool dates, pitted
  • 2 tablespoons Tahini

Instructions

  1. 1In a dallah (Arabic coffee pot) or a medium saucepan, combine the 4 cups of water, 4 tablespoons of ground Arabic coffee, 4 lightly crushed cardamom pods, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground saffron.
  2. 2Place the dallah or saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 5 minutes. You will see small bubbles and steam rising, and a rich aroma will develop.
  3. 3Carefully strain the hot coffee through a fine-mesh sieve into 4 serving cups, ensuring the cardamom pods and coffee grounds are removed.
  4. 4In a small bowl, combine the 8 pitted Medjool dates and 2 tablespoons of tahini. Mash them together with a fork until a thick, spreadable paste forms. You can leave some small date pieces for texture or mash until completely smooth.
  5. 5Serve the hot Saudi coffee immediately with the date and tahini paste on the side for dipping or spreading.
