Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Applesauce
  • 0.75 cup Milk
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, whisk together the 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt until well combined.
  2. 2Add the 0.5 cup of applesauce and the 0.75 cup of milk to the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon or your hands until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
  3. 3Pour the 2 cups of vegetable oil into a large, heavy-bottomed skillet. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  4. 4On a clean surface lightly dusted with flour, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  5. 5Cut the dough into squares approximately 2 inches by 2 inches, or any desired shape.
  6. 6Carefully place 3-4 dough pieces into the hot vegetable oil, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until the pişi are puffed up and a deep golden brown color. You should hear a gentle sizzle as they cook.
  7. 7Using a slotted spoon or tongs, remove the cooked pişi from the hot oil. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  8. 8Repeat steps 6 and 7 with the remaining dough pieces until all are fried.
