Peixinhos da Horta (Green Beans)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Green beans
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. 1Trim the tough ends off of the 1 lb of green beans.
  2. 2In a medium bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp of baking powder, 0.5 tsp of salt, and 0.25 tsp of black pepper until well combined.
  3. 3Gradually add the 0.75 cup of water to the dry ingredients while whisking constantly until you have a smooth, lump-free batter.
  4. 4Pour the 2 cups of vegetable oil into a large skillet and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Dip each trimmed green bean into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated, and then carefully place the battered beans into the hot oil.
  6. 6Fry the battered green beans in batches for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the skillet.
  7. 7Using a slotted spoon or tongs, remove the fried green beans from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  8. 8Serve the Peixinhos da Horta hot.
