Ingredients

  • 1 lb Green Beans
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 cup Water (cold)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Vegetable Oil

Instructions

  1. 1Wash the 1 lb of green beans and trim off the ends.
  2. 2In a medium bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp of salt, and 1/4 tsp of black pepper.
  3. 3Gradually whisk in the 3/4 cup of cold water until you have a smooth batter with no lumps.
  4. 4Heat the 2 cups of vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Dip each green bean into the batter, making sure it is fully coated, and let any excess batter drip off.
  6. 6Carefully place the battered green beans into the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pot. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and look crispy.
  7. 7Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried green beans from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
  8. 8Serve the Peixinhos da Horta immediately while they are hot and crispy.
