Patatas Bravas (Spicy Potatoes)

Classic Spanish tapas dish of fried potatoes with a spicy tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 cups Olive oil, for frying
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1/2 medium Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 1 can Diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Heat olive oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. 2Fry potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Season with salt.
  3. 3For the sauce, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  4. 4Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. 5Add garlic, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper and cook for 1 minute more.
  6. 6Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and vegetable broth.
  7. 7Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, or until sauce has thickened.
  8. 8Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. 9Serve potatoes with the spicy tomato sauce.
