Paleo Kelewele (Spiced Plantains)

Sweet and spicy fried plantains, a popular Ghanaian street food. This paleo version uses coconut oil for frying.

Ingredients

  • 3 large Ripe plantains
  • 1/4 cup Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Ginger
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Ground cloves

Instructions

  1. 1Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch chunks.
  2. 2In a bowl, mix together ginger, cayenne pepper, salt, and ground cloves.
  3. 3Add the plantains to the spice mixture and toss to coat evenly.
  4. 4Heat coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. 5Fry the plantains until golden brown and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  6. 6Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
