Ingredients

  • 1 lb Bread Dough
  • 0.25 cup Butter
  • 0.5 cup Molasses

Instructions

  1. 1Take the 1 lb of bread dough and cut it into small, bite-sized pieces, roughly 1-inch cubes.
  2. 2Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the 0.25 cup of butter to the skillet and let it melt completely. This should take about 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. 3Carefully add the cut bread dough pieces to the hot, melted butter in the skillet. Ensure the pieces are in a single layer as much as possible.
  4. 4Cook the dough pieces for about 10 to 15 minutes, turning them every few minutes with a spatula. You are looking for them to become golden brown on all sides and puffed up.
  5. 5The dough pieces are ready when they are a deep golden brown and feel slightly crisp on the outside. You should not see any raw dough in the center.
  6. 6Remove the golden brown toutons from the skillet and place them on a plate.
  7. 7Pour the 0.5 cup of molasses into a small bowl. Serve the hot toutons immediately with the molasses for dipping.
