Masoor Dal (Red Lentil Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Red lentils (masoor dal)
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 medium Tomato
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Rinse the red lentils under cold water.
  2. 2Heat ghee in a pot over medium heat.
  3. 3Add chopped onions and cook until translucent.
  4. 4Add minced garlic and grated ginger and cook for another minute.
  5. 5Add diced tomatoes, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and garam masala. Cook for 2 minutes.
  6. 6Add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and the curry has thickened.
  7. 7Season with salt to taste. Serve hot with rice or gluten-free roti.
