Ingredients

  • 2 cans Sweetened condensed coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Carefully pour the 2 cans of sweetened condensed coconut milk into a heat-safe glass jar, ensuring the jar is not filled completely to the very top to allow for expansion.
  2. 2Place the glass jar containing the sweetened condensed coconut milk into a large, heavy-bottomed pot. Add enough water to the pot so that the water level is at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) higher than the level of the condensed coconut milk inside the jar.
  3. 3Place the pot with the jar on the stovetop and heat over medium heat until the water reaches a gentle simmer, about 180°F (82°C). Once simmering, reduce the heat to low to maintain this gentle simmer. Cook for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, checking the water level every 30 minutes and carefully adding more hot water if needed to keep the jar fully submerged in the water bath.
  4. 4After the cooking time, carefully remove the hot glass jar from the water bath using oven mitts or sturdy tongs. Place the jar on a heat-proof surface, such as a wire rack or a trivet, and allow it to cool completely to room temperature. This cooling process is crucial for the Manjar en Frasco to develop its proper thick, spreadable texture and will take several hours.
  5. 5Once the jar is completely cool, open it. Add the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and the 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the thickened coconut milk mixture. Stir thoroughly with a spoon until the vanilla extract and salt are fully combined and evenly distributed.
  6. 6If, after the initial cooling, the Manjar en Frasco is not as thick as you prefer, you may return the opened jar to the large, heavy-bottomed pot. Carefully add simmering water to the pot, ensuring the water level does not go over the rim of the jar. Simmer over low heat for an additional 30 minutes, maintaining a gentle simmer at about 180°F (82°C). After this additional simmering, remove the jar and allow it to cool completely to room temperature again. Serve the Manjar en Frasco as a sweet spread or topping.
