Luqaimat (Egg-Free)

Sweet dumplings popular in Emirati cuisine, made without eggs using a combination of yogurt and cornstarch for texture and binding.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp Dry Yeast
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup Yogurt (Dairy or Non-Dairy)
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 2 cups Oil, for frying
  • 1/4 cup Date Syrup or Honey

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2Add the yogurt and water. Mix until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be slightly thick.
  3. 3Cover the bowl and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. 4Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Using a small spoon or pastry bag, drop small balls of batter into the hot oil.
  6. 6Fry for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.
  7. 7Remove the luqaimat from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. 8Drizzle with date syrup or honey. Serve warm.
