Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cooked White Rice
  • 4 patties Plant-Based Burger Patties
  • 4 tablespoons Vegan Butter
  • 4 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • 4 cups Vegetable Broth
  • 2 tablespoons Tamari (Soy Sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce (Vegan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Optional: Green Onions

Instructions

  1. 1Place the 4 cups of cooked white rice into a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven. Heat it over medium heat, aiming for a temperature of 350°F / 175°C, until the rice is warmed through.
  2. 2In a separate medium saucepan, melt the 4 tablespoons of vegan butter over medium heat, aiming for a temperature of 300°F / 150°C, until it is fully liquid.
  3. 3Once the 4 tablespoons of vegan butter are melted, whisk in the 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. Continue to whisk constantly for 1 to 2 minutes, until the mixture becomes smooth and turns a light golden color, forming a roux.
  4. 4Gradually whisk the 4 cups of vegetable broth into the roux, ensuring no lumps form. Then, add the 2 tablespoons of tamari, 1 tablespoon of vegan Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder. Stir until all ingredients are well combined.
  5. 5Increase the heat to medium, maintaining a temperature of 300°F / 150°C, and bring the gravy mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly. Continue to stir and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until the gravy has thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon and appears smooth and slightly glossy.
  6. 6While the gravy simmers, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, aiming for a temperature of 350°F / 175°C. Place the 4 plant-based burger patties into the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until they are heated through and have a nice sear.
  7. 7To assemble, divide the 4 cups of cooked white rice evenly among four serving bowls. Place one cooked plant-based burger patty on top of the rice in each bowl. Generously ladle the thickened gravy over the burger patty and rice.
  8. 8If desired, sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of optional green onions evenly over the assembled Loco Moco in each bowl before serving.
