Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cooked White Rice
  • 1.5 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 3 cups Beef Broth
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Cold Water
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions

Instructions

  1. 1Set aside the 4 cups of cooked white rice, ready for assembly.
  2. 2Dice the 1 medium onion into 1/8-inch pieces and finely mince the 2 cloves of garlic. In a large bowl, combine the 1.5 lbs of ground beef with the diced 1 medium onion and minced 2 cloves of garlic. Gently mix with your hands until just combined, then form the mixture into 4 equal hamburger patties.
  3. 3Heat the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, reaching approximately 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the 4 hamburger patties into the hot skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes per side. The patties are done when they are browned on both sides and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.
  4. 4Pour off any excess fat from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add the 3 cups of beef broth, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the same skillet. Bring the liquid to a simmer over medium heat, using a spatula or spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. 5In a small bowl, whisk together the 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water until the mixture is smooth, forming a slurry. Gradually pour this cornstarch slurry into the simmering broth in the skillet while stirring constantly. Continue to stir and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until the gravy has thickened to a consistency that coats the back of a spoon.
  6. 6To assemble each serving, place a generous scoop of the 4 cups of cooked white rice into each of the 4 serving bowls. Top each bowl of rice with one of the cooked hamburger patties. Ladle the thickened gravy generously over the hamburger patty and rice.
  7. 7Thinly slice the 2 tablespoons of green onions. Sprinkle the sliced 2 tablespoons of green onions over the top of each assembled loco moco as a garnish.
