Lángos (Hungarian Fried Bread)

Ingredients

  • 500 g All-purpose flour
  • 7 g Instant yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 300 ml Warm water
  • 200 g Potatoes (mashed)
  • 500 ml Vegetable oil
  • 200 g Sour cream
  • 100 g Grated cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and mashed potatoes.
  2. 2Gradually add warm water and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. 3Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. 4Heat vegetable oil in a large, deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
  6. 6Stretch or roll each portion into a flat, oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. 7Carefully place each lángos in the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. 8Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. 9Top with sour cream and grated cheese (if using). Serve immediately.
