A traditional Emirati flatbread, Khameer, served with date syrup (dibs). This recipe is modified to be dairy and nut-free. Olive oil is used instead of ghee.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cup Warm water
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Date syrup (dibs)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2Add warm water and olive oil, mix until a dough forms.
  3. 3Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. 5Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium heat.
  6. 6Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each into a flatbread.
  7. 7Cook each flatbread on the griddle for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  8. 8Serve warm with date syrup.
