Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Berries
  • 1 lb Chicken
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 stick Cinnamon Stick

Instructions

  1. 1Soak the wheat berries in water for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  2. 2In a large pot, combine soaked wheat berries, chicken, onion, ghee, salt, pepper, cinnamon stick and enough water to cover the ingredients.
  3. 3Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 3-4 hours, or until the wheat is very soft and the chicken is falling off the bone.
  4. 4Remove the chicken from the pot. Shred the chicken meat and discard the bones and skin.
  5. 5Return the shredded chicken to the pot. Use a wooden spoon or immersion blender to mash the wheat and chicken together until a porridge-like consistency is achieved.
  6. 6Serve hot.
