Ingredients

  • 8 squares Mochi (kiri mochi)
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Instructions

  1. 1In a small saucepan, combine the 2 tablespoons soy sauce, the 2 tablespoons mirin, the 1 tablespoon sugar, and the 1 tablespoon water. Heat this mixture over medium heat (approximately 350°F or 175°C), stirring constantly for 2 to 3 minutes, until the 1 tablespoon sugar completely dissolves and the liquid slightly thickens. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  2. 2Preheat your grill to medium heat, aiming for a temperature between 375°F and 425°F (190°C and 220°C).
  3. 3Place the 8 squares Mochi directly onto the preheated grill grates. Grill each side for 3 to 5 minutes. The Mochi is ready when it puffs up and develops light golden-brown grill marks.
  4. 4Using tongs or a spatula, carefully brush both sides of the grilled 8 squares Mochi with the prepared sweet soy glaze.
  5. 5Serve the grilled Mochi immediately while they are warm and chewy.
