Gluten-Free Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork)

Ingredients

  • 2 lb Pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1/4 cup Coconut aminos
  • 2 tbsp Rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin sauce (gluten-free)
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Ginger
  • 1 tsp Five-spice powder
  • Few drops Red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1Cut pork shoulder into long strips, about 2 inches wide.
  2. 2In a large bowl, whisk together honey, coconut aminos, rice wine vinegar, gluten-free hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, five-spice powder, and red food coloring (if using).
  3. 3Place pork strips in the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  4. 4Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place a wire rack inside a baking sheet.
  5. 5Arrange marinated pork strips on the wire rack. Roast for 30 minutes.
  6. 6Increase oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Brush pork with remaining marinade and roast for another 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  7. 7Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving with rice and your favorite sides.
