Ingredients

  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 cup Dates (pitted and chopped)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Saffron Threads
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Honey

Instructions

  1. 1In a large heavy-bottomed pot, combine the 2 cups of water and the 1/2 cup of cornstarch. Whisk them together until there are no lumps and the mixture is completely smooth.
  2. 2Add the 1/4 cup of ghee, the 1/2 cup of chopped dates, the 1/4 teaspoon of saffron threads, the 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder, and the 2 tablespoons of honey to the pot. Stir everything to combine.
  3. 3Place the pot over medium heat, which is about 350°F (175°C). Cook the mixture, stirring constantly with a whisk or wooden spoon, until it begins to thicken into a smooth, cohesive porridge. This should take about 5-10 minutes.
  4. 4Continue to cook the porridge over medium heat, stirring constantly, for another 5-7 minutes. This ensures the cornstarch is fully cooked and the porridge reaches a thick, pudding-like consistency. The porridge is done when it pulls away from the sides of the pot as you stir.
  5. 5Serve the gluten-free asida hot.
