Ingredients

  • 1 lb Baby Potatoes
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Mirin
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds

Instructions

  1. 1Scrub the 1 lb baby potatoes clean under cool water. If any potatoes are larger than about 1.5 inches in diameter, cut them in half so they are roughly the same size. This helps them cook evenly.
  2. 2In a medium-sized heavy-bottomed pot, combine the 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp mirin, 1 clove minced garlic, and 1/2 cup water.
  3. 3Add the prepared 1 lb baby potatoes to the pot with the sauce mixture. Turn the heat to high and bring the liquid to a rolling boil.
  4. 4Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. The potatoes should become tender when pierced with a fork, and the sauce will thicken slightly.
  5. 5Stir the potatoes gently every 5 minutes during simmering to make sure they don't stick to the bottom of the pot and to coat them evenly in the sauce.
  6. 6Remove the pot from the heat. Drizzle the 1 tsp sesame oil over the potatoes and sprinkle with the 1 tsp sesame seeds. Stir gently to combine.
  7. 7Serve the gamja jorim warm or cold as a side dish or snack.
