Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon Berbere Spice Blend
  • 1/2 teaspoon Niter Kibbeh Spice (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Place the 1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels into an air popper and turn it on, or place the 1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels into a large heavy-bottomed pot. If using a pot, heat it over medium-high heat (approximately 350-375°F / 175-190°C) until the kernels begin to pop. Continue popping until the sound of popping slows to one pop every 2-3 seconds, which should take about 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. 2While the popcorn is popping, measure the 2 tablespoons of melted Coconut Oil into a small bowl.
  3. 3Add the 1 tablespoon Berbere Spice Blend, the 1/2 teaspoon Niter Kibbeh Spice (if you are using it), and the 1/4 teaspoon Salt to the small bowl with the melted Coconut Oil.
  4. 4Whisk these ingredients together until they are well combined and form a uniform spiced oil mixture.
  5. 5Once the popcorn has finished popping, carefully transfer all of the popped popcorn into a large serving bowl.
  6. 6Drizzle the spiced oil mixture evenly over all of the popped popcorn in the large serving bowl.
  7. 7Gently toss the popcorn with a large spoon or by carefully shaking the bowl until every piece of popcorn is evenly coated with the spice mixture.
  8. 8Serve the Ethiopian-Spiced Popcorn immediately to enjoy its fresh flavor.
