Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Berbere Spice Blend
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Place a large, heavy-bottomed pot on the stove over medium heat (350°F / 175°C). Add the 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and let it heat up until it is shimmering.
  2. 2Carefully add the 0.5 cup of popcorn kernels to the hot coconut oil. Immediately cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  3. 3Listen to the popcorn as it cooks. When the popping sounds slow down to about 2-3 seconds between each pop, it is time to remove the pot from the heat. This usually takes about 5-8 minutes.
  4. 4Carefully pour all the popped popcorn into a large serving bowl. Be sure to leave any unpopped kernels behind in the pot.
  5. 5Sprinkle the 2 teaspoons of berbere spice blend and the 0.5 teaspoon of salt evenly over the popcorn.
  6. 6Gently toss the popcorn with your hands or a large spoon until all the kernels are coated with the spices and salt. Make sure every piece gets some seasoning.
  7. 7Serve the Ethiopian Spiced Popcorn immediately while it is warm and fresh.
