Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Berbere Spice Blend
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Place a large, heavy-bottomed pot on the stove over medium heat. Add the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and let it heat up until it shimmers, about 1 minute.
  2. 2Add the 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels to the hot oil. Immediately cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  3. 3Cook the popcorn over medium heat, listening carefully. When the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat. Keep the lid on.
  4. 4While the popcorn is finishing, measure the 1 tablespoon of berbere spice blend and the 1/2 teaspoon of salt into a small bowl.
  5. 5Stir the berbere spice blend and salt together until they are well combined.
  6. 6Remove the lid from the pot of popcorn. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the hot popcorn.
  7. 7Gently toss the popcorn with a large spoon or by carefully shaking the pot to ensure all the kernels are coated with the spices.
  8. 8Serve the Ethiopian Spiced Popcorn immediately.
