Ingredients

  • 2 cups Rolled Oats
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Berbere Spice Blend
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cardamom
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup
  • 0.5 cup Chopped Dates

Instructions

  1. 1Get a medium saucepan and add the 4 cups of water. Place the saucepan over high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil, about 212°F (100°C).
  2. 2Once the water is boiling, carefully add the 2 cups of rolled oats, 1 teaspoon of berbere spice blend, 0.5 teaspoon of cinnamon, 0.25 teaspoon of cardamom, and 0.25 teaspoon of salt. Stir everything together to combine.
  3. 3Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the oatmeal simmer gently for 10 to 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. The oatmeal is ready when it has thickened to your preferred consistency, and you can no longer see distinct grains of oats.
  4. 4Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the 2 tablespoons of maple syrup and the 0.5 cup of chopped dates until they are evenly distributed throughout the oatmeal.
  5. 5Serve the Ethiopian Spiced Oatmeal hot immediately.
