Ingredients

  • 1 can Chickpeas (canned)
  • 1/2 medium Onion
  • 1/4 cup Cilantro
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Coriander
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Drain and rinse the 1 can of Chickpeas. Place the drained chickpeas into a food processor.
  2. 2Add the 1/2 medium Onion, 1/4 cup Cilantro, 2 cloves Garlic, 1 tsp Cumin, 1 tsp Coriander, 1/2 tsp Turmeric, 1/4 cup All-purpose flour, and 1/2 tsp Salt to the food processor with the chickpeas.
  3. 3Process the mixture until it forms a coarse texture. It should hold together when squeezed.
  4. 4Heat 2 cups of Vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Carefully shape the chickpea mixture into small, flat patties, about 2 inches in diameter.
  6. 6Gently place 3-4 patties into the hot vegetable oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 4-5 minutes, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. 7Using a slotted spoon, remove the cooked fritters from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  8. 8Repeat step 6 with the remaining chickpea mixture until all fritters are fried.
  9. 9Serve the Emirati Spiced Chickpea Fritters warm.
