Ingredients

  • 1 cup Black lentils (whole urad dal)
  • 0.25 cup Kidney beans (rajma)
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Garam masala

Instructions

  1. 1Soak lentils and beans: Soak black lentils and kidney beans overnight.
  2. 2Pressure cook: Cook soaked lentils and beans in a pressure cooker with 4 cups of water for 8-10 whistles.
  3. 3Sauté aromatics: Heat butter in a large pot. Add chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Add minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for a minute.
  4. 4Cook sauce: Add tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes. Add cooked lentils and beans, garam masala, and salt. Simmer for 3-4 hours on low heat, stirring occasionally.
  5. 5Finish sauce: Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. 6Serve: Serve hot with rice.
