Ingredients

  • 2 bags Black tea bags
  • 1 cup Hot water
  • 1 cup Dairy-free milk (oat or almond)
  • 2 tablespoons Sweetener (maple syrup or sugar)

Instructions

  1. 1Pour the 1 cup of hot water into a heatproof bowl or measuring cup. Add the 2 bags of black tea bags and let them steep for 3 to 5 minutes. You will see the water turn a dark brown color.
  2. 2Carefully remove the 2 tea bags from the hot water, squeezing them gently to get all the tea out. Discard the tea bags. Add the 2 tablespoons of sweetener (maple syrup or sugar) to the hot tea and stir until it is completely dissolved.
  3. 3Pour the sweetened tea mixture and the 1 cup of dairy-free milk into two separate mugs or small pitchers. Make sure you have two containers ready.
  4. 4Hold one mug or pitcher about 12 inches above the other. Pour the liquid from the top container into the bottom one in a steady stream. You should see some foam start to form. Immediately pour the liquid back into the first container, again from a height.
  5. 5Continue pouring the liquid back and forth between the two mugs or pitchers. Repeat this action 5 to 10 times, or until you see a good amount of frothy foam on top of the tea. This process aerates the tea and makes it creamy.
  6. 6Serve the Dairy-Free Teh Tarik immediately while it is still warm and frothy.
