Ingredients

  • 4 cups Coconut Milk
  • 4 ounces Dairy-Free Chocolate (dark)
  • 1 whole Cinnamon Stick
  • 4 whole Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Orange Zest
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar

Instructions

  1. 1In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, combine the 4 cups of Coconut Milk, the 1 whole Cinnamon Stick, the 4 whole Cloves, and the 1 teaspoon of Orange Zest.
  2. 2Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. You will see small bubbles forming around the edges of the pot, and steam will begin to rise. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  3. 3Add the 4 ounces of Dairy-Free Chocolate (dark) and the 2 tablespoons of Sugar to the pot. Whisk continuously until the dairy-free chocolate has completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Continue to heat gently for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, but do not let it boil.
  4. 4Remove the pot from the heat. Cover it and let the hot chocolate steep for 5 minutes. This allows the flavors from the cinnamon stick, cloves, and orange zest to fully infuse into the chocolate mixture.
  5. 5Carefully pour the hot chocolate through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl or directly into serving mugs. Discard the cinnamon stick and cloves caught in the sieve.
  6. 6Serve the Dairy-Free Peruvian Hot Chocolate warm.
