Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground Beef
  • 4 Burger Buns
  • 4 leaves Lettuce
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 1/2 medium Onion
  • 4 tbsp Dairy-Free Mayonnaise
  • 4 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Prepare the Monkey Gland Sauce: In a medium saucepan, heat the 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat (350°F / 175°C). Add the 2 cloves of minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until you can smell it, but do not let it brown. Stir in the 4 tablespoons of tomato ketchup, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of paprika, and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. 2Prepare the Burgers: Place the 1.5 lbs of ground beef in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Gently mix the seasonings into the beef. Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and form each portion into a patty, about 3/4-inch thick.
  3. 3Cook the Burgers: Heat a grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat (400°F / 200°C). Cook the 4 burger patties for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer depending on your preference. The internal temperature for medium-rare should be 130-135°F (54-57°C).
  4. 4Toast the Burger Buns: While the burgers are cooking or resting, lightly toast the cut sides of the 4 burger buns until golden brown.
  5. 5Prepare the Toppings: Thinly slice the 1 large tomato. Thinly slice the 1/2 medium onion. Wash and dry the 4 leaves of lettuce.
  6. 6Assemble the Burgers: Spread 1 tablespoon of the 4 tablespoons of dairy-free mayonnaise on the cut side of each bottom burger bun. Place one lettuce leaf on top of the mayonnaise. Add slices of tomato and onion on top of the lettuce. Place a cooked burger patty on top of the vegetables. Spoon a generous amount of the prepared Monkey Gland sauce over the burger patty. Place the top bun on each burger.
  7. 7Serve immediately.
