Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rye flour
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Cooked rice
  • 1 cup Dairy-free milk
  • 1 block Silken tofu
  • 2 tablespoons Nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Dairy-free butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black salt (kala namak)

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. 2In a bowl, mix rye flour, all-purpose flour, water, and salt to form a dough. Knead for 5 minutes.
  3. 3Roll out the dough thinly and cut into small circles.
  4. 4Mix cooked rice with dairy-free milk. Place a spoonful of rice filling on each dough circle.
  5. 5Fold the edges of the dough upwards to create a pie shape, leaving the center open.
  6. 6Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. 7For the egg-free 'egg' butter, blend silken tofu, nutritional yeast, melted dairy-free butter, and black salt until smooth.
  8. 8Serve hot Karelian pies with the egg-free 'egg' butter.
