Ingredients

  • 1 cup Raw peanuts
  • 0.75 cup Sugar
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 0.5 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1In a large skillet, combine the 1 cup raw peanuts, the 0.75 cup sugar, and the 0.5 cup water.
  2. 2Place the skillet over medium heat (350°F / 175°C). Stir constantly until the 0.75 cup sugar dissolves completely and the mixture begins to gently bubble.
  3. 3Continue to cook and stir the mixture constantly. Watch as the 0.5 cup water evaporates and the sugar begins to crystallize and coat the 1 cup raw peanuts. This should take about 10 to 15 minutes. The peanuts are ready when they are fully coated in a crunchy, crystallized sugar shell.
  4. 4Once the sugar is completely crystallized and the 1 cup raw peanuts are coated, immediately remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the 0.5 tsp vanilla extract until it is evenly distributed.
  5. 5Carefully spread the coated peanuts in a single layer onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. This allows them to cool and prevents them from sticking together.
  6. 6Allow the garrapiñadas to cool completely on the baking sheet, which will take about 15-20 minutes. Once cooled, break apart any large clumps of peanuts before serving.
