Dairy-Free Emirati Khameer Bread with Date Syrup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cup Coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • to taste Date syrup

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2Warm the coconut milk and coconut oil in a saucepan until lukewarm. Add to the dry ingredients.
  3. 3Mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. 5Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flatbread shape.
  6. 6Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. 7Serve warm with a drizzle of date syrup.
