Ingredients

  • 2 large Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup Dairy-free milk (almond, soy, or oat)
  • 1 tbsp Egg replacer powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 3 cups Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 tbsp Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1Combine the 2 large apples (peeled and sliced), 1/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg in a medium bowl. Stir well until all apple slices are evenly coated, then set this bowl aside.
  2. 2In a separate large bowl, whisk together the 1 cup all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons baking powder until they are thoroughly combined.
  3. 3Add the 1 tablespoon egg replacer powder to the large bowl with the whisked dry ingredients. Pour in the 3/4 cup dairy-free milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir gently until the ingredients are just combined into a batter, being careful not to overmix.
  4. 4Pour the 3 cups vegetable oil into a large, heavy-bottomed pot. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. 5Using tongs, dip one apple slice at a time into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Carefully place the battered apple slice into the hot oil. Continue adding apple slices, ensuring the pot is not overcrowded. Fry the fritters for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. 6Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the cooked fritters from the hot oil. Transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Repeat the frying process with the remaining apple slices and batter.
  7. 7Arrange the drained fritters on a serving plate. Lightly dust the warm fritters with the 2 tablespoons powdered sugar before serving.
